No testado en animales

For products of habitual consumption, such as cosmetics and daily hygiene products, animal experimentation is carried out to conclude if the products are safe for human consumption. For this, the animal is forced to ingest or inhale the product in question to subsequently observe its effects.

In all the cases in which it is tested on animals, it ends with the death of the animal, since part of the process consists of knowing how much we humans would have to ingest or inhale to cause death. These tests are not carried out only for cosmetics, but also for food additives, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, motor antifreeze, paints, household cleaning products and any other product that could be toxic to humans.

And how can it be that it is still being tested? Because the law made the cheat. If we read the law we find the prerogative that trademarks can be accepted and exempt from it if they demonstrate that they do not have a reliable alternative system.

The most used animal species to test the products are usually rodents and other mammals, birds and amphibians are used to a lesser extent. The only parameter to choose the species is that its features are as similar as possible to us: skin, cornea, lungs, etc.

One of the most used animals to test products is rabbits. In addition to their similarity with us, it is that they are small animals, they reproduce easily and are cheap.

Dogs and cats are also not spared from experimentation. Likewise pigs, goats, sheep and primates are also used. In the case of the European Union, all these animals must come from breeding centers, but in other countries they can even be collected from the street.
